As the first Realtor in AZ involved with the EPA’s Energy Star for Homes Program, we have been very involved with understanding the entire “building science†initiative and changes continue to improve the overall efficiency of our homes. At Encanterra®, like other communities, the homes built when we first opened do not have the same features as today’s homes. We could not obtain Shea Xero in those earlier homes, as insulation types and other features would not get us there. Today, with cathedralized insulation and higher performing windows, one could argue whether solar panels are a benefit for winter visitors or not. Our homes vary from no solar to 3, 4, 5 KW to Shea Xero, and the great thing is all leases were paid in advance by the builder. If you’re here part-time, say Nov-Apr, you’re getting limited use of solar unless you have an electric pool heater or something that uses a tremendous amount of energy. If you’re here full-time then, of course, the blazing summers come with increased SRP pricing and higher bills. Bottom line, if you can get it and it’s paid for, of course, we would all want it. Before buying solar, and especially a straight-up lease, stop in and see your Shea Preferred team for additional advice and information.
