Time flies when you are having fun!
July started off with a bang with the storm that blew in right before the fireworks celebration. Luckily, mother nature cooperated and the wind and rain died down long enough to allow for a great firework show. The month has continued with crazy Monsoons making up for last year’s non-soon. Lifestyle has continued the month with many fun events. Thursday Night Social is back the fourth Thursday of the month as well as the Dive-In Movies, Jukebox Bingo, and Glow In The Dark Karaoke to name a few. Summer Wine Week had great events ending the week with our Summer Wine Showcase.
Additionally, we have incorporated new guest procedures which include wristbands. This helps us identify who is a guest. We have also added pool attendants at the pools to make sure everyone is registered and is supposed to be here. The guest survey that went out clearly showed that all the Members like the ability to have guests but want the processes to be followed. We will continue to do our best to provide consistent enforcement of the rules. If you see someone who is not following the rules, feel free to email me at Trish.huff@Encnaterra.com.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Summer is in full swing for the entire Food & Beverage team. With decreased seating on the patio during summer, the F&B team has worked hard on making sure we have tables inside available for you to reserve. We’ve been adding new and fun liquors behind the bar and training new team members to meet the current demand. We now have a locker room attendant with us that is servicing the men’s and ladies’ lounges. Please let us know when you will need drink or food service in those areas, and we will make sure Randy is available to serve you.
It has been great to see our Members out and enjoying Palma, the pools, and Explorations. We are working on new menu items and will be changing menus in the next few weeks. For the month of August, we’ll have one big wine day that will include several wine events throughout the day! We will also continue to run the DJ alternating at the pools every Sunday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm until the end of August.
In the future, we will look to bring back music to the Clubhouse on Friday and Saturday nights. We are getting very close to having the new tap system installed at The Algarve and look forward to starting a new Beer Club down there soon as well. Members have had interest in a whiskey buying club. Mickey and the F&B team have been thinking about introducing a Whiskey Enthusiast Club that would be dedicated to tasting new whiskeys, getting exclusive deals on rare and hard to find whiskeys that come our way. If you are interested in either the new Beer Masters Club or Whiskey Enthusiast Club, please send Mickey an email mickey.foster@encanterra.com.
GOLF
Course Reminders | The Golf Course is looking great, and we are pleased with how conditions are progressing. The aerification in early July helped tremendously but there is still more work to do. While Alex Ward and the Golf Course Maintenance Team are working hard, your help in repairing divots and ball marks, and following golf car and Phat Scooter etiquette is essential.
Repairing ball marks on the greens helps to ensure a smooth playing surface. We’ve seen an increased number of unrepaired ball marks on the greens which is impacting the putting service for all players. Please be sure to repair your ball marks as needed. Divot tools are available at the first tee for your convenience. If you aren’t sure how to repair your mark, click here to watch a helpful video.
Similarly, we have seen an increase in divots on the fairways. Bermuda fairways are thick and moist, making divots more common. The easiest way to repair divots is to fill them with the sand provided and smooth it out with your foot. Click here for a helpful video. There are two sand refill stations on Holes 1 and 10. Please utilize them as needed. Bermuda grass will fill in quicker when sand is added, and fairways have a better chance of maintaining ideal conditions when we all do our part.
Finally, please be sure to follow the 90-Degree Rule when using golf cars or Phat Scooters. Carts are allowed on the fairway, but they must maintain a 90-degree angle from the cart path to limit impact to the turf. Take the cart path to a spot that is even with your ball, make a 90-degree turn and drive straight toward the ball. This rule is a best practice that should be utilized whenever possible. Remember, to exit fairways between the blue capped stakes as this controls cart traffic wear and tear.
Please also remember that vehicles should always be kept on the cart path around tees and greens. Vehicles should never be closer than 30 yards to the green unless on the cart path. Golf Car signs should be followed at all times.
Thank you all for your cooperation and assistance in keeping course conditions ideal for all!
Conditions | Alex Ward and his team had a very busy July! The golf course is continuing to transition with most areas filled in, some sodded and the remaining areas are closing in more each day. July has been a busy month with greens aerification taking place the week of July 5 and a deep tine aerification on the fairways that same week. Due to the monsoon storms, 20 trees had significant limb damage which resulted in quite a bit of storm cleanup. Overall, we received close to 5 inches of rain for the month of July, which is great for the golf course. One thing you learn in Arizona is that you never turn down rain because you never know when the next rain will come.
Looking forward to August, the golf course will be completing transition. Alex and his team will start using growth regulators and vertical mowing to help keep the Bermuda grass growth under control. They will also begin the bunker renovation sometime near the end of August, removing all the old sand, checking and repairing drainage, installing new bunker lining and adding new sand to the green side bunkers on holes 1, 2, 4, 10, 11(back bunker), 12, 14, 17, 18. This project will greatly improve the playability and drainage of these bunkers. To help offset the bunkers not getting the renovation this year, they’ve started a temporary renovation, tilling the existing sand, moving sand around to achieve proper depths, and adding a few inches of new sand. They’ll be doing the green side bunkers first and then moving to the fairway bunkers. Alex’s goal is to have all the bunkers playing similarly during the renovation process.

Cristina is a native of the Philippines who fell in love with a native Minnesotan. The family moved to Arizona mid-pandemic in 2020. She is happy that she is back living in a warm climate. She came to us with a myriad of experiences – 12 years as administrative specialist at Dow Chemical Company in Edina, Minnesota, 5 years of office management for an international firm (Philippines) and another 3 years of government service (Office of the Press Secretary), also in the Philippines. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and we are very lucky to have her with us! Association Updates & Reminders
Encanterra Blvd. & Morello Dr. Road Closure Update: We are please to announce we anticipate the repair to be completed by the first week in August.
Parking at The Algarve: Parking golf carts and other vehicles in the street front of The Algarve Club has become hazardous, and for your safety and the safety of others, Members and guests will need to utilize the designated parking spaces at the Club.
Please know that per Article 3, section 3.17 of the Amended and Restated CC&Rs for Encanterra, Members must park their vehicles in their garage or on their driveway (but must be in compliance with the following).
Motor vehicles that do not exceed 7 feet in height and 22 feet in length that are not used for commercial purposes, do not display any commercial name, telephone number or message of any kind on their vehicle may be parked in the garage or in the driveway of a lot. Motor vehicles etc. that do not fit within these parameters are not allowed to be parked on any lot or common areas (which includes the streets), so as to be visible from Neighboring Property.
However, guests may be parked on the street during daytime & evening hours, but over-night parking on the streets by guests is prohibited.
Speed Limit and Safety: We have a wonderful and beautiful community and we all need to be aware of our Members, residents and their guests in this truly active community. There are people walking and riding bikes, as well as driving golf carts and other motorized vehicles on our streets at all times. We need to be aware of the unnecessary hazards created by excessive speed and obey all the traffic rules for Encanterra and we need your help!
One of the biggest complaints we hear about is speeding. The maximum speed limit within the community is 25 miles per hour as posted. This is for everyone’s safety and we must work together and hold each other accountable to this speed limit. Speeds above this limit can create hazards. It is imperative for the community to work together to keep the speed down to the posted limit of 25 miles per hour.
What can you do to help to increase safety? It’s simple, all vehicles need to make a full stop before proceeding through every stop sign; this includes golf carts, maintain a safe speed, watch for pedestrians, golf carts, and bicyclists. You never know when someone may be crossing the street and it only takes a moment for accidents to happen. Please maintain a safe speed as you are driving in the community, let’s keep Encanterra safe!
Association Office: We are located at the Main gate; office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm daily. Encanterra Country Club Community Landscape Update
So far, Monsoon Season has not disappointed. Even though we’ve had some damage to contend with, the storms have brought much-needed rain to the Valley and the surrounding mountains. Hopefully, we’ll continue to get rain for a few more weeks to help with the drought situation. If so, we should be in good shape as we begin the long slow transition to fall. Here’s how we kept busy over the past month:
Storm Watch
The Monsoons have kept us on our toes all month. We’ve had more than two inches of rain so far this summer and our crews have removed, salvaged or trimmed more than 100 trees, including 30 that were lost throughout the community. As you know, these storms are unpredictable. We’re constantly monitoring our systems and adjusting irrigation to ensure we aren’t wasting water. We also have been working hard to repair damage and remove debris following each storm event to keep the Community in top shape.
Staying Ahead
With the rains and winds, we’ve also been working to keep ahead of any potential future issues. Crews trimmed trees on the Hashknife walking trail of the Delanova (N3) and Balearic (N2) neighborhoods. They also trimmed trees along the Giocare (N6) walking path, removed Yucca stalks from along Combs Road, and trimmed the Mexican Fan Palms at La Casa. Finally, we sprayed for weeds along the Encanterra marketing path to keep that area looking great.
Water Works
We’ve also been flushing the irrigation system as required following the Potassium Promagnate treatment and are auditing the condition of the irrigation system at the homesites. This will enable us to keep all the landscaping under our care healthy as we begin transitioning to fall.
Staying Sharp
The teams have spent a lot of time this month making sure the community is in top shape. This means a heavy concentration on our normal maintenance rotation, moving from one area to the next according to schedule. The renovation project at Vesper Trial is in full swing and will be completed at the end of the month. Palm trees have now been trimmed by removing the fruit and dead and hanging fronds. The drain in the turf retention off Encanterra Blvd will have the floor drain installed at month’s end – Just in time for summer Monsoons. Plant replacements continue in designated areas of the community and in the Resort Collection homes. Finally, all summer annuals have been installed throughout the Club and annual beds in the Community.
Green is Good
Turf transition is now a main focus as we transition from winter rye grass back to summer Bermuda grass. We are at our desired mow height and will stay at this height to keep the Bermuda lush and healthy with adequate air and light. We fertilized all the turf areas and are increasing our watering as we welcome the Bermuda grass back for the summer. The final step in the process will be aeration of turf areas which will be underway in the coming weeks.
These are just the highlights, of course. Our responsibilities extend well beyond and our task list are never ending. With the forecasted sunshine and warming temperatures, Encanterra Country Club will be in top shape throughout 2021.
These are just the highlights. The Monsoons are likely to keep us busy a bit longer as well. If you see any leaks, broken trees or other areas of concern, please contact our community management team from AAM at 602.957.9191 and provide as much information as possible. A ticket will be created, and we will get right on fixing the problem.
Thank you!
For the Members: Monsoon Reminder
Rain. Wind. Dust. Hail. Ready or not, Arizona’s Monsoon Season is here until September 30. So, if you haven’t yet, now is the time to prepare. Here are our top tips to get your home ready for the summer storms:
Prepare plants and trees
Just like our crews are doing around the neighborhood, you can avoid a lot of damage by trimming in advance. Especially, remove any large tree branches that could snap off in a storm and damage your roof. Stake down young trees that might not make it through an intense storm. And remember, the heavy monsoon rains that often come before the strong winds can loosen the soil and make trees more prone to becoming uprooted.
Evaluate your home’s drainage
If you’ve noticed drainage issues in your yard that cause pooling of water during a rain storm, make sure you have it taken care of before as soon as possible. You may need to hire a landscaping company to provide a drainage solution that will keep your yard and home protected from possible flooding.
Install or Clean Out Rain Gutters and Downspouts
Rain gutters and downspouts are the best way to direct the rain that comes from monsoon microbursts away from your home. Don’t wait until it’s too late to make sure yours are ready to do their job and divert the rain away from your home’s foundation.
Clean out the Garage
Making sure there is space to park your car in the garage is a great way to avoid costly damage from falling limbs or trees. Make room in the garage for your car and keep it safe from flying objects, as well as hail, rain and wind.
